When we make a sentence, we need a verb. However, some verbs are not doing words at all, but express states of being or having. We use some kinds of verb in report text, such as :



1. Linking verbs
They connect a noun with words that identify or describe the noun. Usually, linking verb are forms of the verb be. There are some verb which belong to linking verbs, such as : is/are, has/have, appear/appears, get /gets, look /looks, and belong/belongs. Example : A goat has four legs.



2. Relating verbs
They are verb that link the subject and the rest of the sentence. There are some verb which belong to relating verb, such as: Classify, divide, consist, and group. Example : Frogs are classified into amphibians.



3. Behavior verbs
There are verb of physiological and psychological behavior of living things. There are some verb which belong to behavioral verbs, such as: Breathe, feed, snore, throw, smile, dream, suck, burrow, etc. Example : Father snores loudly.
The following are the other kinds of verbs.



1. Saying verbs
They are verbs of of talking in direct speech. There are some verbs which belong to saying verbs, suck as: Say, speak,tell, ask, explain, reply, answer, whisper, shout, scream, etc. Example : Father screamed, "get up".



2. Material verbs
They are verbs of doing. There are some verbs which belong to material verbs. Example : Mother goes to the office.



3. Mental verbs
They are verbs of sensing: Feeling, thinking, and perceiving.

a. Feeling verbs : Like, love, hate, enjoy, dislike etc.
b. Thinking verbs : Think, doubt, consider, believe etc.
c. Perceiving verbs : See, smell, taste, hear, listen etc
